2024 CG Carmelo Adkins Officially Signs NLI with West Virginia

2024 combo guard Carmelo Adkins has officially signed his National Letter of Intent with West Virginia on Friday. Adkins is the sole signee for the Mountaineers during thee early signing period.

Adkins will publicly sign at The PHHacility in Phoenix on Friday at 6 p.m. MT.

“Carmelo embodies the culture of West Virginia basketball,” WVU interim HC Josh Eilert said per release. “He has a first in, last one out mentality when it comes to his work ethic. He’s a big, athletic guard who can shoot the basketball. Carmelo will be a great addition to our Mountaineer basketball family.”

Adkins (6-foot-5) is a combo guard originally from Keller, Texas. Adkins has received offers from Bryant, Holy Cross and West Virginia. Adkins reclassified from 2023 to 2024 for his postgraduate year at PHHoenix Prep OTE. Adkins committed to West Virginia on Nov. 2, while also understanding the position the current coaching staff is in.

“It sucks knowing that they are in that position right now, but I’m very positive that they’ll be back to coach me next year,” he said. “Obviously it was a risk but I’m a risk taker.”

WVU assistant Jordan McCabe originally offered Adkins in September. Adkins then officially visited West Virginia in October and wasn’t left disappointed.

“What stuck out to me most from the visit was [the] hospitality from the players while I was there. They made me feel like I belong,” Adkins told WV Sports Now. “I love Morgantown a lot, the fans are truly die-hard fans while I was walking with the players multiple students and parents gave their support for this year’s season.”

Adkins averaged 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and 1.3 steals last season.
