With their 2025 class ready to go for December’s National Signing Day, the WVU football staff is turning their attention to 2026 and beyond. And now they know they’re officially in the running for a highly coveted linebacker.
Cam Thomas, a four-star 2026 linebacker recruit out of Lakota West High School, included West Virginia as one of his top schools on Tuesday night.
Thomas is considering Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Oregon along with WVU.

WV Sports Now talked with Thomas after his visit for the Albany game early in the 2024 season.
“I had a great time in Morgantown. The WV staff was amazing from start to finish. West Virginia said they want to lock in with me for this recruiting process. They did a great job for a game day visit,” said Thomas.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 217 pounds, Thomas is widely considered one of the top Ohio athletes in his class. Thomas holds a a four-star rating from ESPN and Rivals and three stars from 247 Sports and On3 Sports. He’s also ranked as one of the top 20 players in the state by every major recruiting outlet.
A big reason WVU wanted to get Thomas on campus early in his recruitment is due to how much interest he’s already generating across the country. Thomas’ versatility and ability to play both outside linebacker and edge rusher is a driving force in why so many big brands are after him.
Thomas had offers from schools like Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Pitt, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin among others before narrowing down his list.

He’s not. That’s for his high school. It’s the same W logo that’s on his uniform pants in the embedded tweet.
