Around the Big 12: Conference Playoff Chances Take a Hit as Oklahoma State Falls to Texas

No. 19 Oklahoma 62, Texas Tech 28

The Sooners (4-3, 3-2 Big 12) scored 48 first-half points and cruised to a blowout victory over the Red Raiders (2-4, 1-4).

Oklahoma scored six touchdowns on the ground and quarterback Spencer Rattler did not turn the ball over. TTU quarterback Henry Colombi threw for 227 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in his second career start.

Oklahoma hosts Kansas next week, Texas Tech travels to TCU.

No. 22 Texas 41, No. 14 Oklahoma State 34

A 100-yard kickoff return and a Sam Ehlinger touchdown pass erased an 11-point Oklahoma State lead, but the Cowboys kicked a field goal with five seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Texas (4-2, 3-2) scored on another Ehlinger pass in the first overtime and Oklahoma State (4-1, 3-1) lost 41-34 as quarterback Spencer Sanders was sacked on fourth down. Despite getting the win, the Longhorns were out-gained 530-287.

Texas hosts West Virginia next week and OSU travels to Kansas State.

TCU 33, Baylor 23

Do not let the final score fool you, this one was all TCU.

The Horned Frogs (2-3, 2-3) scored 30-straight points to start the game and carried a 30-7 lead into halftime. Baylor (1-3, 1-3) scored some garbage time points, but by then it was already over. TCU ran for 247 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Charlie Brewer completed 17-37 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

TCU hosts Texas Tech next week and Baylor travels to Iowa State.

West Virginia 37, Kansas State 10

The Mountaineers dominated from the second quarter onward to upset KSU 37-10.

WVU (4-2, 3-2) scored 21 points in the second quarter and held the Wildcats (4-2, 4-1) scoreless in the second half to cruise to a 27-point victory. KSU freshman quarterback Will Howard threw three interceptions and the Wildcat offense was held to just 225 total yards.

West Virginia travels to Texas next week and Kansas State hosts Oklahoma State.

No. 17 Iowa State 52, Kansas 22

Kansas (0-6, 0-5) allowed 50 points for the second straight game and is still winless on the season.

Iowa State (4-2, 4-1) now sits atop the conference, tied with Kansas State. ISU running back Breece Hall rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns to extend his lead as the Big 12’s rushing leader.

Iowa State hosts Baylor next week and Kansas travels to Oklahoma.
