Big 12 News and Notes: K-State’s Johnson Declares For Draft, Avery Anderson to TCU and More

Over the weekend, the Big 12 Conference had many movements in the basketball world. Players declared for the draft and some transfers committed. Let’s take a look at the latest news.

Keyontae Johnson Declares for NBA Draft

Kansas State forward Keyontae Johnson announced on Sunday that he will enter his name into the NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility. Johnson would have one more year at KSU if he decides to come back.

Johnson averaged 17.4 points and 6.8 rebounds this past season, leading the Wildcats to an Elite-8 appearance. Johnson transferred to first-year head coach Jerome Tang last fall after missing the last two years to a health issue. Johnson was named to the All-Big 12 First Team.

OkSt G Avery Anderson Transfers to TCU

Oklahoma State guard Avery Anderson committed to TCU over the weekend, staying in the Big 12. Anderson has spent the last four years at OSU under head coach Mike Boynton.

Anderson leaves Oklahoma State scoring over 1,000 points during his four-year career. The Justin, Texas, native averaged 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 22 games this past season. Anderson’s year ended up short after dealing with a wrist injury. Anderson will have one year of eligibility.

Anderson joins Jameer Nelson Jr. (G – Delaware), Essam Mostafa (F – Coastal Carolina) and Trey Tennyson (G – Texas A&M-Corpus Cristi) as TCU’s transfer class this offseason.

Texas Returns Dylan Disu, Lands UVA Big Kadin Shedrick

Texas had a great Sunday, returning big man Dylan Disu and receiving a commitment from Virginia’s Kadin Shedrick.

Disu returns for his fifth season of eligibility, starting on a Longhorns team that reached the Elite-8. Disu averaged 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 36 games this season. Disu shot 61 percent from the field as well.

Shedrick chose Texas over other Power-5 programs on Sunday night. Shedrick played three seasons at Virginia, moving in and out of the starting lineup the last two years. Shedrick recorded 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks for the Cavaliers. Shedrick has two years of eligibility remaining.
