Black Diamond Rivalry Game Sold Out

At least two of WVU’s road games this year will be in front of sellout crowds as Virginia Tech has announced that their game against WVU on September 22 at 7:30 p.m. has officially sold out.

As stated in the Tweet above, the game holds additional significance for Virginia Tech as it will be 28 years to the day of their first-ever Thursday night game, which was also against WVU in 1994.

Last season, WVU beat Virginia Tech in Morgantown 27-21. The two teams have met 53 times in history and WVU leads the overall series 29-23-1, though Virginia Tech has won seven of the last 10. This will be the last meeting between the two rivals in the current renewal of the series.

Both teams are coming off of 6-7 seasons with only four wins in conference play a-piece. Most national outlets have the two teams finishing around there again this season, making for a pretty even rivalry game.

WVU’s first game of the season is also sold out, the renewal of the Backyard Brawl on September 1st at Acrisure Stadium against Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m. will be the host of College GameDay as well.
