West Virginia Pitt Backyard Brawl

The 105th edition and renewal of the Backyard Brawl is officially sold out, according to a tweet by Pitt football.

The first of eight games set to be played between the two rivals in the renewal series will take place at Acrisure Stadium, a stadium Pitt shares with the Steelers. The stadium’s listed capacity is 68,400 but the Brawl will likely have a few more with standing room only tickets still being sold and priced at $125.

That price is expensive though considering Pitt was selling season tickets at $180 a seat when they opened it up back in January.

When Pitt last renewed one of their major rivalry games, the Penn State series, the stadium attendance record was set both home games in the renewal at 67,737 (2016) and 69,983 (2018). That record has since been broken by concerts, but remains the largest game crowd.

Both fanbases are excited for the renewal of the Backyard Brawl and the attendance figures are buoyed too by excitement surrounding the two teams.

Pitt is coming off their best season in 50 years and are getting a lot of love in the preseason predictions while West Virginia enters year four of the Neal Brown era, the typical year for a head coach to finally see everything he has been building come together.

The game takes place in Pittsburgh at Acrisure Stadium on September 1 at 7:00 p.m. for the first College Gameday game of the season.
