Number 55 will always be synonymous with Dante Stills at West Virginia, but the former Mountaineer will wear a new number as he embarks on his NFL career with the Cardinals.

On Thursday, the Cardinals revealed the numbers for the rookies in their 2023 draft class, showing Stills with number 98. Stills then added “big 98!!” on his retweet of the initial post by Arizona’s official Twitter account.

After waiting anxiously on the night of the NFL Draft, the Fairmont, West Virginia native was eventually selected by Arizona in sixth round with the 213th pick. The Cardinals were one of the teams who stayed in constant communication with Stills throughout the draft process.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 286 pounds, the Fairmont, West Virginia native owns WVU’s all-time tackle for loss record. He impressed NFL teams at events like the East-West Shrine Bowl and NFL Combine once his college career officially ended at WVU in December.

Stills displayed a maturity that will serve him well professionally. And most importantly, he showed that he belongs in the NFL as a player too. This all helped lead him to getting drafted.

Dante Stills now becomes the second member of his family to be drafted into the NFL. His dad played 10 years in the NFL after being drafted in the third round. Darius Stills was not drafted two years ago despite his success in college.
