Javon Small Productive as Grizzlies Fall for NBA Summer League Title

Coming up just shy of the title, Javon Small and the Memphis Grizzlies lost the NBA Summer League championship on Sunday night.

To his credit, Small reached double digits in scoring again, granted wasn’t as productive as his recent games. He scored 10 points, but only connected on 3-of-11 shots from the field and 2-of-7 from three.

Small did also add four rebounds and eight assists in the Grizzlies’ 94-90 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Small, West Virginia’s point guard during the 2024-25 season, led the Mountaineers to a 19-12 record, just missing out on the NCAA Tournament. He finished second in the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game while earning first-team All-Big 12 honors.

Small is set for his second year in the NBA after averaging 9.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds across 41 games with 12 starts in 2025-26.

Small is the second former Mountaineer to be drafted since Jevon Carter was taken in the second round in 2018. Miles “Deuce” McBride went No. 36 to the New York Knicks in 2021. WVU has produced five draft picks since 2000.

The Grizzlies selected the ex WVU guard with the 48th overall pick in late June.
