JJ Quinerly Leads Wings in WNBA Preseason Debut

WVU basketball great JJ Quinerly led her team in scoring with 16 points in her first WNBA preseason game Friday night.
Quinerly paced the Dallas Wings with 16 points in just 13 minutes in a 112-78 loss to the Las Vegas Aces in the first game of the WNBA preseason. First overall pick Paige Bueckers scored 10 points for the Wings.

Dallas drafted JJ Quinerly 27th overall in last month’s WNBA Draft. Despite being drafted, Quinerly’s roster spot on the Wings is not guaranteed, as teams will cut down to 11 or 12 players at the start of the season. Dallas’s final preseason game is next Saturday, May 10. The Wings open the regular season at home against Minnesota on Friday, May 16.
Quinerly, who is third all-time in WVU history in both points and steals, will go down as one of the greatest players in WVU womenโs basketball history. Staying with the Mountaineers through three different head coaches, Quinerly led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances while racking up three All-Big 12 first-team selections, back-to-backย Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Awardsย and twoย All-American honorable mentions.
The Virginia native averaged a career-high 20.4 points this season with 3.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. She scored double-digit points in all but one game this season, reaching 20 points 14 times and 30 points three times. She matched the program record for single-game scoring with 38 points on Senior Day against Utah.
