Jordan Lesley will serve as West Virginia’s defensive coordinator in 2021 and WVU football coach announced the assignments for his defensive coaching staff Friday afternoon.

Lesley will be promoted to defensive coordinator and also coach outside linebackers. Lesley served as WVU’s co-defensive coordinator and coached the defensive line last season. In 2020, Jeff Casteel was responsible for the outside linebackers.

“I am pleased to announce the defensive staff assignments, including Jordan Lesley, as the coordinator,” Brown said. “The staff did a great job of coaching and teaching last year, and our defense was an important part of our team’s success.”

Dontae Wright will return to WVU to coach safeties against in 2021, as will Jeff Koonz as the special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

New hires Andrew Jackson will coach the defensive line and ShaDon Brown will be a co-defensive coordinator and coach the defensive backs. Jackson will take over the defensive line from Lesley, who coached the position the last two seasons. Brown will replace Jahmile Addae, who held the same position last year and took a new position with Georgia this offseason.
