West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown announced the addition of assistant coach Andrew Jackson to the Mountaineer coaching staff Thursday afternoon.

Jackson will join WVU as a defensive assistant and Brown will announce specific staff assignments in the future, according to a news release from the school.

Jackson comes to WVU after serving as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Old Dominion last season. In a statement, Brown highlighted the importance of Jackson’s recruiting experience.

“He comes highly recommended and brings good defensive experience with him,” Brown said. “He already has recruiting experience in areas within our footprint and has a track record for being an outstanding teacher.”

Prior to Old Dominion, Jackson was the defensive tackles coach at James Madison at the FCS level in 2019. He was a defensive quality control coach at Mississippi in 2018 and a defensive line coach a Fordham in 2017.

“Coach Brown is building a strong, family-oriented program at West Virginia, and I am excited to become a part of its upward climb,” Jackson said in a release. “The program has a rich tradition and history and the fan base is very passionate. I have a lot of respect for the people in this state, and I am excited to work with the players and coaches. I can’t wait to get started.”

Jackson’s first coaching experience came with two years each at Sonty Brook and Penn State as a graduate assistant. He was a three-year starter at division-II LIU Post in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Earlier this week, it was announced that WVU’s co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae was leaving to take an assistant coaching job at Georgia, creating a vacancy on the defensive side of the ball.
