LB Charlie Benton signs LOI

Linebacker Charlie Benton (6’4” 215-lbs) from Butler Community College committed to West Virginia in October and will be an early enrollee, enrolling this January.

Benton fits perfectly into the 3-3-5 scheme.  He can go from sideline to sideline with his speed, and makes the big hit.  He uses his athleticism to avoid blocks, but also has the strength to go through a block to get to the ball carrier.

I think he will make an immediate impact on the depth chart, it will all come down to how fast he can pick up defensive coordinator Tony Gibson’s scheme.  With his speed and athleticism, he will see the field on special teams immediately.

Benton also had offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Iowa State.
