No. 5 WVU Men’s Soccer to Host Vermont in Sweet 16 Matchup

WVU men’s soccer team has found out their round of 16 matchup for Saturday afternoon. WVU will take on unranked Vermont at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown after the Catamounts upset in conference rivals in the UCF Knights Sunday night. The first kick is set for 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.

The No. 5 Mountaineers advanced to the Sweet 16 on Sunday after shutting out opponent Louisville with the end score of 1-0. WVU improved to 15-2-4 on the season, tying a program record for wins and not yet losing on their home field.

In its matchup with the Cardinals, the Mountaineers outshout Louisville, 17-7, with shots on goal even at four. Ultimately, Senior Yutaro Taukada score the only goal of the day in the second half at the 72-minute mark. The Tokyo, Japan native has scored 10 goals for WVU this season and tallied a team-leading nine assists.

The unranked University of Vermont men’s soccer team shocked No. 12 UCF Knights men’s soccer team in double overtime. The teams were tied at 2-2 when the Catamounts Carter Johnson’s header in the 105th minute gave them the 3-2 win.

Vermont is heading to Morgantown and after making it into the third round of the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year.
