WVU men’s soccer earned the No. 5 national seed in the NCAA Tournament selection show on Monday afternoon. West Virginia will have a first-round bye before awaiting the game between Louisville and Dayton. WVU will host either UofL or UD.

WVU men’s soccer finished 14-2-4 and at one point earning the No. 1 team in the country after defeating Marshall earlier in the season. The Thundering Herd got revenge on Sunday, defeating WVU in the Sun Belt Championship.

It was a record-breaking season though for Dan Stratford’s squad, receiving the highest ever seed in the tournament in the program’s history. Two other records were also broken for the Mountaineers program with scoring the most goals in a single game this season and breaking the at home attendance record.

Three Mountaineers were selected to the 11 player 2023 Sun Belt All-Tournament Team including:Β M – Sergio Ors Navarro; F – Yutaro Tsukada; and M – Luke McCormick.

The road to the DI men’s soccer championship begins on Thursday, Nov. 16 and continues with four rounds leading to the College Cup. Marshall received the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament and will also host in the second round.

The College Cup is made up of the semifinals and finals before crowing a champion.Β The national championship will be held this year beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 in Cary, North Carolina.
