All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.

Freshman defensive back Matthias Squire joined the WVU football program following the conclusion of their fall training camp, adding depth to a position group that ranked as one of the worst in the nation in 2024. The Mountaineersโ€™ roster uses the catch-all label of defensive back rather than specifying whether a player plays cornerback or safety (with the exception of specialist roles like the nickel), but at 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds, Squire would almost certainly fit best at cornerback.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez says he doesnโ€™t want to use redshirt years in the era of the transfer portal, but Squireโ€™s size and late start mean heโ€™d likely benefit from a developmental year.

Post-camp outlook: Squire joins a Mountaineersโ€™ secondary that ranked as one of the worst in Division I last season.

Projected role: Barring a redshirt year, expect Squire to play as a reserve in blowouts or on special teams.

Accolades, highlights: Squire also participated in track and field in high school: his specialty event, the hurdles, indicates an excellent combination of speed and vertical athleticism that bodes well for the gridiron.
