Despite the uncertainty surrounding the 2020-21 college basketball season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big East and Big 12 conferences will try to play the Big East/Big 12 Battle, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. WVU’s Big East opponent in the Battle would be Georgetown, according to Rothstein.

This would be the 53rd meeting between the two teams, dating all the way back to 1922. It would be the first meeting between the two old Big East rivals since Georgetown defeated WVU in the first round of the NIT in 2014.

In last season’s Big East/Big 12 Battle, the Mountaineers suffered their first loss of the season against St. John’s in Madison Square Garden. Georgetown defeated Oklahoma State 81-74 in its Big East/Big 12 Battle game last season. Georgetown finished last season with a 15-17 record, 5-13 in the Big East.
