Report: WVU CB Charles Woods Has Surgery, Out Indefinitely

Published

on

Based on a report by EerSports.com and an image posted by Charles Woods on his Instagram account, it is believed the West Virginia cornerback had surgery.

Woods, who is expected to be out indefinitely, will miss his second straight game this Saturday after being helped off the field early in the Backyard Brawl against Pitt. Head coach Neal Brown was noncommittal on his status leading up to the Virginia Tech game, but did make it known that Woods would be unable to play Saturday afternoon at his media session this week. Brown did also say he would then be reevaluated after the game hopes to get Woods back as soon as possible this season.

At the time of his press conference on Tuesday, Brown did not shut the door on Woods playing in Blacksburg, but the battle for the Black Diamond Trophy against Virginia Tech takes place only a few days later on Thursday night. There was no mention of Woods being scheduled for surgery prior to this recent report and image.

It is unclear how the surgery changes Woods’ status and how long “indefinitely” will actually be. Either way, this is another hit to the Mountaineers defense, which desperately missed Woods as the leader of their secondary during the loss to Kansas.
