West Virginia is expected to hire Louisville safeties coach ShaDon Brown as its new co-defensive coordinator, according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Brown, who has spent each of the last two seasons with the Cardinals, would be filling the vacancy left when Jahmile Addae left WVU to become the defensive backs coach at Georgia. Addae served as WVU’s cornerbacks coach in 2019 and added on responsibilities as co-defensive coordinator this season alongside defensive line coach Jordan Lesley. Brown coached the safeties at Louisville in both 2019 and 2020. WVU’s current safeties coach is Dontae Wright.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Brown spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as the secondary coach at Colorado, being promoted to defensive passing game coordinator in his second year.

Brown also spent 2015 and 2016 as the cornerbacks coach for Army. His first college coaching job came with Wofford College, where he coached cornerbacks from 2011-14 and safeties in 2015. Prior to that, Brown was a high school coach in Kentucky. He graduated from Campbellsville University in 2002.

Brown is from the same home town as WVU head coach Neal Brown, Danville, Kentucky.

Last week, WVU added former Old Dominion assistant Andrew Jackson to its defensive coaching staff as well.
