Pitt transfer John Hugley

West Virginia basketball is still scheduled at the moment to host Pitt transfer John Hugley for a visit next weekend, a source tells WV Sports Now. Hugley will visit despite WVU receiving a transfer commitment from Jesse Edwards of Syracuse on Sunday. Hugley is set to visit starting on Friday and lasting through Sunday.

**Update (4/20): WVU and Hugley have mutually agreed to cancel the visit this weekend, per source.

Hugley (6-foot-9) has been scheduled for a visit since April 3 but with Edwards entering the portal, the former Syracuse Orange became a top priority for West Virginia’s staff. Edwards was recruit by many Power-5 programs as he cut his list down to WVU, Kansas and Gonzaga. Edwards averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 32 games during his senior year. It appears that WVU is still interested in bringing Hugley along for next season’s team.

Hugley is coming off his third season suiting up for the Panthers. The Cleveland native dealt with injuries throughout this season, eventually being ruled out in January. Hugley averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in just eight games. Hugley showed his full potential during the 2021-22 season, averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds on 48 percent shooting.

After securing Edwards, West Virginia is currently hosting Iowa State transfer guard Caleb Grill, who arrived in Morgantown late on Sunday night. Grill most recently visited Missouri and will be in Morgantown until Tuesday. Grill averaged 9.5 points on 37 percent shooting from three this past year for the Cyclones.
