Mountaineers in the Pros
Steelers Try Out Former Mountaineer for OL Depth
The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted four offensive linemen at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Friday as the team entered its mini-bye.
The Steelers hosted offensive linemen James Brockmeyer, Andrew Coker, Gus Hartwig and Tomas Rimac for tryouts on Friday.
The Steelers have two open slots on their practice squad, after signing running back Travis Homer and cornerback Doneiko Slaughter to the 53-man roster over the last week. Homer replaced guard Gennings Dunker, who was placed on injured reserve, and Slaughter filled in for Joey Porter Jr. after his trade to the Dallas Cowboys.
They also have yet to replace tackle Broderick Jones, who was traded at the end of the preseason, on their roster, carrying just three tackles on the 53-man roster and one guard/tackle on the practice squad in the former of Doug Nester.
Rimac, 23, was an undrafted free agent of the Minnesota Vikings this spring out of Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-6, 317-pound guard/tackle spent his first three collegiate seasons at West Virginia, where he played with Steelers offensive linemen Zach Frazier and Nester.
