After starting 2-1 in conference play, the West Virginia Mountaineers end the year dead last in the Big 12 with a 4-14 record in conference play. The Mountaineers have earned a 9-seed in the Big 12 Conference Tournament that starts on Wednesday.

WVU will play Kansas State in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

West Virginia struggled in Big 12 play, going 1-13 in conference play at one point, before their senior day win over TCU on Saturday. The Mountaineers haven’t won multiple games in-a-row since January when they defeated Kansas State and Oklahoma State on back-to-back games.

Fifth-year senior Taz Sherman finished the year second in the conference in points per game with 18.3. Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji averaged 19.8 during his senior campaign. Dimon Carrigan finished third in the conference in blocks with 32.

Due to Oklahoma State being indelible for any postseason play, there will only be nine teams competing in the tournament this week.
