West Virginia signee Patrick Suemnick and Triton College are heading to the NJCAA Final Four. The 11-seed Trojans upset No. 3 Kilgore on Thursday night 76-65.

The future Mountaineer will play in the final four matchup against No. 10 Northwest Florida State on Friday at 8:00 p.m. in Hutchinson, Ks.

Suemnick (6-foot-8) has led the Trojans through three games in the NJCAA Tournament. The Green Bay native is averaging 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists through the three-game tournament run. Suemnick scored 18 points on Tuesday, then followed that performance up with 21 points on Wednesday. On Thursday, Kilgore’s game plan was to take Suemnick out of the game. Suemnick got his teammates involved and still got the win over the higher seed.

Suemnick also plays hard on defense, averaging 1.0 blocks and 0.7 steals through 32 games. Suemnick tells WV Sports Now that he committed to becoming the next “glue guy” at West Virginia starting next season.

“I’m just someone who’s going to be versatile, bring energy,” he said. “I think the toughness that you normally see with a Bob Huggins team, that’s something I think I can bring back and restore. Obviously, we have guys like [Pauly] Paulicap and Gabe [Osabuohien], but we’re going to be losing a lot of that toughness.”

Suemnick committed to West Virginia in October and signed with the team in November.
