Will Grier Released By Eagles, Back on Hunt for New NFL Team

Will Grier will now be in search of yet another NFL team after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. The Eagles announced Grier was released from the practice squad to make room for defensive end Tarron Jackson.

Grier was initially cut by the Eagles after the preseason before being added to the practice squad.

Grier signed with the Eagles in March after a roller coaster 2023 season that started with the Dallas Cowboys moving on from him right at the end of the preseason that year.

Grier completed 7-of-11 passes for 51 yards in two preseason appearances for Philadelphia in the summer.

The WVU product has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers during his professional career.

The Cowboys told Grier he would not be on the team moving forward the day before he took the field to start Dallas’ final preseason game in 2023. He put up one the best performances of his professional career in his Cowboys farewell, completing 29 out of 35 passes for 305 yards with two touchdown passes while playing the entire game. He also ran for 53 yards and scored two more touchdowns with his legs.

At the time, Grier opened up with Sports Illustrated’s Cowboys FanNation site about a tough 72 hours that taught forced him to endure a series of emotions.

Grier has only played in two regular season NFL games back in 2019, throwing for 228 passing yards and four interceptions.

Before being drafted by the Panthers, Grier spent two seasons as WVU’s starting quarterback in 2017 and 2018 after transferring from Florida.

Grier threw for a total of 7,354 yards and 71 touchdowns in his two seasons as a Mountaineer.
