The West Virginia Sports Now Daily Notebook is a daily recap of news concerning West Virginia University Athletics.

Update (5:00 PM) –

After managing just two runs in the previous 20 innings, WVU Baseball’s offense woke up in a big way on Sunday, scoring 15 runs to end their series with Oklahoma State on a high note.

They needed every bit of that offense, too, as the Sooners managed to stay in the game following a large Mountaineers lead early on, tagging West Virginia’s pitching staff for 10 runs.

Oklahoma State opened the scoring with one run in the second. The Mountaineers roared back to score six in the bottom of the frame, aided by two Sooners’ errors.

West Virginia scored three more runs in the third, then made it double digits on the day with a Kyle West home run the following inning. Oklahoma State began to chip away at the lead in the late innings, but the Mountaineers offense continued to pile on, staying one step—and several runs—ahead on the way to victory.

WVU Baseball sits at 16-12 (5-4 Big 12) on the season. They have a game on the schedule for Tuesday, April 2, but no listed opponent as of yet: if they’re unable to find one, they’ll next take the field in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, April 5.
