WVU Baseball Picks Up Charleston Transfer Kyle West

WVU Baseball added their second transfer of the offseason on Thursday, picking up University of Charleston first baseman Kyle West.

West, a rising junior, lit it up for the Golden Eagles in 2023, hitting .397 with 22 home runs and 47 walks, good for an otherworldly OPS of 1.405 at the Division II level. He also added 29 stolen bases, making him an excellent fit for head coach Randy Mazey’s aggressive brand of offense.

West, a West Virginia native, hails from Hedgesville in the eastern panhandle and has two years of eligibility remaining.

He posted a picture to his Instagram account showing the Mountaineers’ locker room, and also updated his bio to include WVU Baseball.

West stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 195 pounds, a lanky prospect who could slot in at designated hitter once he’s comfortable at the Division I level.

Incumbent first baseman (and fellow junior) Grant Hussey is pretty well entrenched, but it never hurts to add an impact bat who can give him a day off from the field when needed.
