WVU Baseball pitcher Noah Short delivers a pitch

WVU Baseball lost another pitcher to the transfer portal on Wednesday, this time reliever Noah Short.

Short, a right-hander, set a program record for career appearances from a pitcher against Texas on May 19, toeing the rubber for the 73rd time. He then extended his own record to 76 appearances across the rest of the season.

Short pitched 12.1 innings across 24 games in 2023, often stepping in for just one or two batters to help the Mountaineers out of a jam. In doing so, he racked up 15 strikeouts and a 3.65 ERA.

After seeing his innings drop by more than half this season, the move likely comes to make space for the young guns while ensuring playing time himself. Short is the third pitcher for WVU Baseball to enter the portal this offseason after Ben Hampton and Michael Kilker.

A four-year player for the Mountaineers after transferring in from Morehead State (where he took a redshirt year), Short retains one year of eligibility thanks to the COVID year.
