MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – As of Tuesday, a key pitcher is no longer a member of the WVU baseball team.

Chase Meyer is off West Virginia’s roster and has been removed from team page.

In two appearances in 2026, Meyer is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and five strikeouts. He went 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 22 games and three starts last season.

Shortly after WV Sports Now has reached out for comment, head coach Steve Sabins released a statement via the program.

“Junior right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer is no longer with our baseball program. I want to thank Chase for his contributions the past three years to our team and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Here’s a link with more details I came across.

Perhaps wvsportsnow can do a little diving into its accuracy.

Maybe Sabins doesn’t like to be criticized or Meyer stepped over the line. I don’t know. Too bad the adults in the room couldn’t work it out. It probably didn’t need to end like this.

It would be nice to know all the facts. I think that Sabins would not release Meyers unless he had a very good/strong reason.

There is one fact that should be easy to verify. When did Chade break his finger? Chase/Chase’s family said he broke during the challenge games at WVU. Sabins said he broke it during Thanksgiving holiday. Hmmm..

Meyer was not dismissed just for one incident. I can’t stressed that enough. Any article saying he was dismissed just because of one single incident is wrong. The situation is very unfortunate though. We discussed more of this towards the end of the latest episode of Mountaineer Report, that was posted on this site.
