The special 2023 season for the WVU baseball program has moved into historic territory. The Mountaineers are officially a top ten baseball team.

West Virginia (39-13, 15-6) starts off the week advancing in the top 10 by Baseball America and in the Division 1 Baseball poll. This comes after WVU’s 5-3 win over Texas Tech on Sunday, which gave Randy Mazey’s team another series win over a Big 12 opponent.

Baseball America currently has WVU in the seven spot while Division 1 Baseball places the Mountaineers at number six in the country.

Prior to this week, WVU had been holding firm at number 12 each of the last two weeks. West Virginia star JJ Wetherholt also preserves his lead in the nation’s batting title race.

For more context, Baseball America has awarded the Mountaineers their first ever appearance in the top ten in the 43-year history of the publication’s poll throughout this season.

WVU will now get to enjoy this recognition for a few days. West Virginia’s next game takes place on Thursday on the road in another conference showdown with Texas.
