Ross Hodge’s WVU basketball team will meet North Carolina in the Dick Vitale Invitational on Friday, Nov. 27 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, as announced on Thursday.

The two teams will meet for the first time in 61 years, last playing on Dec. 31, 1965, with WVU winning, 102-97, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

WVU has won all five meetings in the series. The series began on Dec. 28, 1949, with the Mountaineers capturing a 58-50 win in Raleigh, North Carolina. West Virginia won at North Carolina on Jan. 15, 1951, 62-49.

The only meeting in Morgantown was on Feb. 6, 1952, with the Mountaineers coming away with an 80-65 victory. On Dec. 21, 1957, WVU defeated No. 1 North Carolina, 75-64, to win the prestigious Kentucky Invitational Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. That win was WVUโ€™s first victory over an Associated Press No. 1-ranked team in school history.

The remainder of WVUโ€™s non-conference schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
