The WVU football program officially announces the hiring of William Green as defensive line coach. This announcement comes a few days after Green confirmed prior reports about his hiring.

“William has coached with us at Jacksonville State and Louisiana Monroe and has done an outstanding job developing players and defensive lines,” WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez said in the press release.

“I am confident that he will continue to be a successful coach and leader here at WVU.”

“Jax State all I can say is thank you. All the players, coaches, and admin I can’t thank y’all enough for the impact you all had on my life over 9 seasons in Jacksonville. We made history together and I will forever cherish my time here. Love you all forever!,” said Green on social media as a New Year’s Eve post that also serves as an announcement.

Green was first reported to be joining Rodriguez’s staff by 247 Sports on Dec. 26. He also added his title to his X (formerly Twitter) page.

Green and Rodriguez first worked together on staff at Louisiana Monroe in 2021. Rodriguez brought Green with him to Jacksonville State in 2022. It was Green’s second stint with the Gamecocks, as he also served as their defensive line coach from 2017-2020. A Florida Gator during his playing days, Green began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 2016.

Green will work under West Virginia’s new defensive coordinator Zac Alley, was officially announced by WVU on Sunday.
