WVU Football Offers 3-Star Dual-Sport Ohio Athlete as TE
Will a dual-sport athlete become a future star tight end for the WVU football program? The West Virginia staff sent a 2026 offer to Cooper McCutchan, a tight end and basketball star in Ohio, on Tuesday night.
McCutchan (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) revealed WVU tight end coach Blaine Stewart called him with the offer. “I am excited to announce an offer to play for WVU,” he said on X (formerly Twitter). Not only is McCutchan a tight end, but he’s within Stewart’s recruiting area.

McCutchan plays both football and basketball at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though he has numerous videos of his basketball highlights posted on social media, the expectation is that he’s pursing football in college.

He’s rated as a three-star by Rivals, On3 Sports and 247 Sports. Each outlet ranks McCutchan among their top 30 Ohio prospects and top 25 tight ends nationally.
West Virginia is far from the only major program showing interest in McCutchan. His WVU offer came just a few days after one from Texas A&M and he also has offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue, Virginia and many others.
