Dual-Sport Star to Visit WVU Football Program on Heels of Offer
As a follow up to West Virginia sending Cooper McCutchan, a tight end and basketball star in Ohio, an offer, he tells WV Sports Now that he’s planning to visit the WVU football program next week.
McCutchan (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) revealed WVU tight end coach Blaine Stewart called him with the offer. “I am excited to announce an offer to play for WVU,” he said on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night. Not only is McCutchan a tight end, but he’s within Stewart’s recruiting area and they have been building a relationship for a while.
“Coach Stewart was great. We’ve met and talked briefly in the past, so it was nice to talk more. I’m heading over next Thursday and look forward to meeting other coaches and touring the facilities,” said McCutchan to WVSN.
McCutchan plays both football and basketball as a 2026 prospect at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though he has numerous videos of his basketball highlights posted on social media, the expectation is that he’s pursing football in college.
He’s rated as a three-star by Rivals, On3 Sports and 247 Sports. Each outlet ranks McCutchan among their top 30 Ohio prospects and top 25 tight ends nationally.
West Virginia is far from the only major program showing interest in McCutchan. His WVU offer came just a few days after one from Texas A&M and he also has offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue, Virginia and many others.
