WVU Gets First Early Signee With Taj Thweatt

Taj Thweatt, a 6’7″ forward from Wildwood, New Jersey will be joining the Mountaineers for the 2020-21 season.

In a press release, head coach Bob Huggins described Thweatt as someone who can pay multiple frontcourt positions while scoring from and defending the perimeter and post.

Thweatt is a senior at Wildwood Catholic High School. As a junior, he averaged 20.2 points and 10.7 rebounds while leading the team to a 27-2 record.

Thweatt is a three-star forward prospect, one of the best in New Jersey according to ESPN. He had offers from DePaul, Rhode Island, Florida, Penn State and Temple prior to choosing the Mountaineers.

This season, Huggins only uses sophomore Emmitt Matthews Jr. as a small forward.

Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period for basketball, which runs from the second Wednesday in November to the third Wednesday in November.
