WVU interim HC Josh Eilert delivered a message to Mountaineer fans over social media on Friday. Eilert said the following on X (Twitter).

“As I’ve finally had some time to sit back and reflect on the past two months, I cannot help but feel extreme gratitude. And I want to take the time to thank Mountaineer Nation for standing with this team, we certainly have felt your support!

And to this staff who locked arms with me and took a leap of faith to give this team the best shot to grow, develop and WIN…I am truly grateful.

And to the men who chose to stay as well as those that joined during these turbulent times to wear the OLD GOLD and BLUE, you won’t regret it!

What moves us ALL forward each and every day is not only the will to win, but to make this state proud.

And we will!”

Eilert is preparing for his 17th season with West Virginia, replacing Bob Huggins who resigned in June. Eilert served as an assistant last season after working his way up the coaching ladder.

Eilert has had an eventful seven weeks after the promotion to interim. Eilert hired two new assistants Da’Sean Butler and Jordan McCabe, while promoting Alex Ruoff from his graduate assistant role. Eilert also brought on former Houston and Texas Tech head coach James Dickey as a senior advisor.

Eilert and his coaching staff retooled the roster once again this offseason after the departures from Huggins’ resignation. Akok Akok (F – Georgetown), Jeremiah Bembry (G – Florida State), Noah Farrakhan (G – Eastern Michigan), Ofri Naveh (F – Israel) and Quinn Slazinski (F – Iona) all have been brought in.
