Jamison Kitna commits to Houston

Jamison Kitna still has plenty of time to change his mind, but announced an early commitment to Houston on Tuesday. Kitna pledged his alliance to the Cougars despite heavy interest and communication with other programs like WVU.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Kitna is considered a three-star quarterback prospect, but still has two more seasons remaining of high school football to move up the ranks. He spent his sophomore season at Burleson High School in Burleson, Texas and will spend his junior season at Lakota East High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Soon after he added West Virginia to his list of offers back in May, a list that also includes Baylor, Duke, Houston, Pitt, Texas Tech and several others, WV Sports Now spoke with Kitna about his recruitment, his style of play, what he’s looking for in a college program and how his dad has helped him.

Kitna visited Morgantown about a month after being offered and then followed up with WVSN again to discuss his first experience in West Virginia. At the time, he said the meeting strengthened his relationship with the WVU coaches.

“They all loved how I threw the football and said they were fired up about me,” said Kitna. Kitna enjoyed the area beyond just the football program. “I thought it was really cool how it was built into the mountain.”

As far as who he is as a player, Kitna knows what he brings to an offense and what type of system would best utilize his skills. “I would say dual threat QB, but the system that fits me best is a pro style system because I can run and use my legs. Ultimately, my game is decision making and knowing where to go with the football,” he explained when evaluating his own game.

Even though his commitment to Houston comes as somewhat of a surprise since Kitna previously said he hold off committing anywhere for at least another year, there’s still also a chance that he wavers, the Mountaineers could emerge as a possibility once again.

West Virginia fans may want to continue keeping a close eye on Jamison Kitna.
