WVU Football DL commit Taylor Brown

The WVU football 2025 recruiting class just received a boost, with a committed player earning his first major four-star rating. Defensive lineman Taylor Brown has now been bumped up to a four-star prospect by 247 Sports.

Brown (6-foot-3, 250 pounds), who committed to become a Mountaineer in June, attends Dr. Henry Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. He ended up picking West Virginia over offers from Buffalo, JMU, Marshall, Memphis, Pitt, Temple among others.

Most recruiting analysts love Brown’s size and his ability to use his hands to win one-on-one battles with opposing linemen. His strength and stamina also make him an imposing force to recognized with up front.

Brown fits the bill as someone who can be versatile, something the WVU coaching staff loves to find or cultivate in players. Even though Brown has mostly been under the radar as far as national attention, it’s easy to understand why West Virginia would be interested in him. It’s very possible Brown could be a diamond in the rough find for the Mountaineers.

Brown committed to WVU on June 12 soon after taking an official visit to West Virginia. The West Virginia staff secured Brown rather, considering they won him over in only a few months. Brown received the call on April 6 and announced his commitment only two months later.

Multiple national recruiting outlets currently rank Brown within the top 25 players in Maryland. 247 Sports even places him as high as No. 7.

In his junior season, Brown recorded 22 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, two sacks and one pass deflection.
