Akok Akok, a forward from Georgetown, officially entered the transfer portal on Friday afternoon, as reported by Jamie Shaw of On3. West Virginia has been linked with Akok dating back to last offseason.

Akok (6-foot-10) enters the transfer portal for the second time during his collegiate career. Akok enters this time as a graduate transfer so he will not need a waiver. Akok averaged 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over 31 games for the Hoyas. Akok shot 46% from the field and 28% from three on 2.7 attempts per game. Akok recorded three double-doubles last season against Coppin State, Villanova and Xavier. The Manchester, Nh. native had three games of five blocks or more.

West Virginia recruited Akok last offseason when he was transferring from UConn. Former WVU HC Bob Huggins visited Akok in Storrs and scheduled a visit in Morgantown. Akok ended up choosing Georgetown but with a coaching change in Ed Cooley, Akok’s name has been rumored to hit the portal.

Current Mountaineer Jose Perez also has a great relationship with Akok as the two played at Putnam Science Academy together.

WVU currently has two roster spots remaining after guard Omar Silverio’s waiver was denied. Silverio was expected to be a fifth-year senior, last playing at Hofstra during the 2021-22 season. The Mountaineers currently have one true center in Jesse Edwards. Edwards is regarded as a top-five transfer in the country. Edwards averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks for Syracuse this past year. It is believed that Akok would join Edwards in the frontcourt rather than coming off the bench.
