Big 12 basketball news

Big 12 basketball news continues to pour in during the offseason. Let’s take a look at what’s going on around the league the last couple of days.

Kansas Gets Texas G Arterio Morris

Kansas picked up their second transfer commitment of the offseason on Friday night, getting Texas’ Arterio Morris. Morris will stay in the Big 12, becoming another intra-conference transfer.

Morris (6-foot-3) averaged 4.6 points in 38 games for the Longhorns as a freshman. Morris has three years of eligibility remaining.

Morris joins Towson guard Nick Timberlake. Timberlake averaged 17.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists during his senior year.

Texas Lands Scoring G Max Abmas

Despite losing Morris to the portal, the Longhorns received a commitment from Oral Roberts transfer guard Max Abmas. Abmas visited Texas, as well as Kansas State during his recruitment.

Abmas (6-foot) is one of the best scorers in the country, averaging 20.8 points during a four-year span at ORU. Abmas helped lead Oral Roberts to a Sweet-16 appearance during the 2021 NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed. Abmas leaves ORU after 123 games and will play one year under Rodney Terry.

Abmas would share the backcourt with Tyrese Hunter, replacing Marcus Carr. Abmas is the second transfer Texas has landed in the last week, picking up Virginia big Kadin Shedrick last Sunday.

2023 5-Star Ron Holland Decommits from Texas

The string of good news for the Longhorns ended on Friday with 2023 5-star prospect Ron Holland decommitting from Texas. Holland picked Texas over Arkansas and UCLA.

Holland (6-foot-8) is ranked No. 4 in the country, according to 247 Sports. Holland was Texas’ only high school commit for the 2023 class.
