Creighton HC Greg McDermott is “nearing” an extension with the school, as reported by Tom Shatel of the Omaha World-Herald. Shatel adds that the deal is not done yet but would allow McDermott to retire at Creighton if completed.

McDermott has been the wild card of the upcoming coaching carousel as rumors circulated that he would leave this offseason. McDermott has been linked with the opened Ohio State job and has been listed with future openings like Louisville and West Virginia. McDermott was one of the Power-6 coaches that could shake things up if he left for another high-power job.
Over the weekend, Ohio State was reportedly in early talks with FAU HC Dusty May. May has been rumored as West Virginia’s top target and has been linked with many Power-6 jobs. May served as a manager at Indiana under Bob Knight in the late-1990s so there’s a clear connection there.
West Virginia currently sits at 9-18 (4-10 Big 12) under interim HC Josh Eilert. WVU director of athletics Wren Baker will evaluate Eilert at the conclusion of the season and make a decision moving forward. It seems pretty clear that WVU will turn the page and officially join the coaching search this offseason.
