Dusty May, head coach of Florida Atlantic, is in early talks with Ohio State, as reported by Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch. OSU joined this upcoming offseason’s coaching carousel after firing Chris Holtmann on Feb. 14.

May, who is in his sixth season at FAU, has emerged as the top coach from the mid-major level over the last calendar year. May coached the Owls to a Final Four appearance in 2023 and brought back his core for this season. FAU has been ranked for the majority of the season as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament.

Currently, OSU and DePaul are the only two Power-6 programs that are officially looking for a head coach. West Virginia is unofficially in that list with interim HC Josh Eilert. WVU director of athletics Wren Baker will evaluate Eilert’s day-by-day job. WVU sits at 9-18 and it’s pretty clear that the athletic department will move in a different direction come March.

May has been linked with West Virginia and their eventual coaching search. WVU did not talk with May following Bob Huggins’ resignation last June. After a week of searching and pressure from players, West Virginia opted to go internally with Eilert for a season.

ESPN listed May as West Virginia’s top target earlier this week.

May has been linked to Indiana as he served as a manager under Bob Knight from 1996-2000. It’s not known if or when Indiana will give up on Mike Woodson, who is in his third season with the Hoosiers.
