Football Training Camp Ends Today, Eastern Kentucky Prep Begins Thursday

Today will be the final practice of West Virginia’s 2020 football training camp.

The team will have off-field activities and begin preparing for its first opponent, Eastern Kentucky, starting tomorrow afternoon. Following the team’s practice yesterday, WVU head coach Neal Brown said final personnel decisions will be made after today.

“We’re going to evaluate today and then tomorrow,” Brown said Monday.

The team will practice again Friday and then have a mock game Saturday.

“That’s really about the mechanics and the procedures on game day,” Brown said.

Facing the end of training camp, Brown has said that he is not happy with how WVU’s special teams units have performed.

“That was not very good on Saturday so we worked on all the special teams, and I thought we got solid work today,” Brown said. “We made some strides on kickoff and kickoff return, and we’ve got to continue to work on our punt return unit.”

Brown said the team will focus on specials teams again today, the last day of camp.

“We’re going to do some situational work special teams-wise, and we will have a full officiating crew so we will do some end-of-game and end-of-half (situations),” Brown said. “We need to walk through some of these end-of-game situations, last play of the half, last play of the game and different situations that we are going to do live tomorrow in the stadium with the lights.”

WVU’s home opener against Eastern Kentucky is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Milan Puskar Stadium.
