Former West Virginia defensive end Jeffery Pooler Jr. announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon that he will be transferring to Northwestern University for his final season of college football.

Pooler, who entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal last month, played four seasons with the Mountaineers after redshirting in 2016. Pooler became a starter in 2019 and put up 46 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 2019 and 2020 combined. In January, Pooler announced he would use his extra year of eligibility to play one more season of college football. Pooler is the third defensive starter to transfer away from WVU this offseason, joining safety Tykee Smith and cornerback Dreshun Miller.

Northwestern, coached by Pat Fitzgerald, went 7-2 last season, making an appearance in the Big Ten Championship game and defeating Auburn in the Citrus Bowl.
