WVU Defensive End Jeffery Pooler Jr. Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

West Virginia defensive end Jeffery Pooler Jr. has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

Pooler, a redshirt-senior from Dayton, Ohio, played four seasons with the Mountaineers after redshirting in 2016. Pooler became a starter in 2019 and put up 46 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 2019 and 2020 combined. In January, Pooler announced he would use his extra year of eligibility and return to WVU.

Pooler would have been WVU’s most experienced defensive end heading into 2021. Senior Dante Stills and sophomore Akheem Mesidor can play both inside and outside on WVU’s defensive line and redshirt-senior Taijh Alston will be returning from back-to-back season-ending injuries in 2019 and 2020.

Pooler is the third defensive starter to transfer away from WVU this offseason, joining safety Tykee Smith and cornerback Dreshun Miller.
