Garrett Greene Earns Major Honor After Leading West Virginia to Comeback Win
Garrett Greene wasn’t perfect, but he was good enough for West Virginia to win on Saturday and to be named one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week.
Greene completed 15-of-30 passes with 382 total yards and three overall touchdowns. He was able to overcome two interceptions to lead the Mountaineers on a comeback win over Kansas after trailing by 11 points late in the game.
Below is from the Manning Award press release about Greene’s performance.
“Greene delivered a pair of touchdown passes in the final 3:27, including the 15-yard game-winner with 26 seconds to go as the Mountaineers came from behind to shock Kansas, 32-28, in Big 12 action.”

Greene, who was named the Manning Award QB of the Week in back-to-back weeks during the 2023 season, has thrown for 902 yards and has seven touchdown passes with four interception so far in 2024. He also holds a 56.8 completion percentage and has 209 yards with two touchdowns on the ground.
Greene attended the prestigious Manning Passing Academy for the second straight offseason this year.
WVU head coach Brown said after the Kansas game that he eventually told Greene to just take off if no one was open. Greene did just that, taking off for 87 rushing yards.
“I’d like him to check down more, but that’s not who he is right now.”
Brown also added more about Greene’s play on Monday.
“He’s gotta be more efficient throwing the ball, but did he make some plays,” said Brown when asked during his weekly press conference before West Virginia embarks on their first of two bye weeks.
For a related story, WVU linebacker Tyrin Bradley was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.

brown is holding him back,,,, pat white looked for receivers for about a second and half , and off he went,, the rest is history,,, let’s use greene the same way,, brown is just so slow at figuring things out,, ok, greene gets hurt, that’s a price he may have to pay, but let’s let greene play his game, and we might win another few more games,,
