Geno Smith Wins an Individual Award That Eluded Him Last Season

It only took two weeks and Geno Smith is already back to being recognized for his individual play. In fact, this time Smith earned an award that eluded him all throughout his remarkable 2022 season.

Smith has been named the NFL Air Player of the Week for his performance in Seattle’s come from behind win over the Lions. The NFL’s reigning Comeback Player of the Year was nominated of the honor four separate times last season, but never won the award.

The Seahawks won the game in overtime 37-31 despite trailing most of the game on the road. Seattle had to outscore Detroit 14-10 in the fourth quarter to get the game into overtime and then Smith’s touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett won the game in overtime.

Smith completed 32 out of 41 passes overall on the day for 328 yards. He thew two touchdown passes, including the game winner in overtime, and also ran for 20 yards. Seattle now moves to 1-1 on the season, avoiding starting the season in an 0-2 hole.
