How Much of an Underdog is WVU to Virginia in Premiere Matchup?

As it should be in a matchup between a ranked team and another group still trying to prove themselves, WVU opens the weeks as an underdog for their Week 3 showdown with Virginia.

The game most WVU football fans have had circled on their calendars for a year is here and will take place this coming Saturday night. And while it’s at a neutral site location in Charlotte, N.C., a place with a significant WVU alumni base, the Cavaliers are still favored by as much as 10 points in major sportsbooks.

Entering the game at 2-0, WVU’s first such start to a season since 2018, the Mountaineers will face their biggest test yet against Virginia. But up until this point, Rich Rodriguez has a 31-24 win over Coastal Carolina in the season opener and a dominating 52-7 victory over UT Martin.

The constant banter about John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” song and the legitimacy about it being adopted by the West Virginia Mountaineers adds extra intrigue to the premiere Big 12 vs. ACC game as well.

Kickoff from Bank of America Stadium is set for 7:30 pm ET on Saturday, Sept. 19.
