Former Kentucky players John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins recapped their 2010 Elite Eight loss to West Virginia on Wall’s newly released podcast. WVU defeated 1-seed Kentucky, who was highlighted by Wall, Cousins and other one-and-done freshmen, 73-66, to advance to the Final Four.

“I cried like a baby,” Wall said. “That game right there bro, still to this day, ugh.”

Wall, Cousins and host C.J. Toledano talked about how they lost to current Boston Celtics HC Joe Mazzulla.

“Y’all know Joe Mazzulla was guarding me in the back of that 1-3-1 [zone] right? Y’all motherf****** wanted to keep shooting threes. I’m like, ‘give me the ball,'” Cousins said. “That 1-3-1 f***** us up.”

Mazzulla ended the game with 17 points, three assists and two steals.

Wall and Cousins continued to talk about how West Virginia’s 1-3-1 zone messed up their game plan.

“It’s Devin Ebanks, Kevin Jones at 6-foot-8, Da’Sean Butler at the time. They were athletic,” Wall said. “We scored like the first 12 points and I walk past Bob Huggins and he said, ‘I’m not guarding you all with man no more.’ They knew they couldn’t guard us in man [defense].”

Wall mentioned how Kentucky wanted to play Duke in the Final Four so bad for John Calipari. Wall admits that Kentucky didn’t overlook WVU but didn’t gameplan the right way against the Mountaineers.

“They were an older team that exposed us,” Wall added.
