JJ Wetherholt Continues Flexing Power, Furthering MLB Case
Continuing to show he’s ready for the big leagues, JJ Wetherholt flexed his muscles and his bat again on Tuesday night.
The WVU product smashed a leadoff home run and drove in another run as part of Memphis’ 10-4 win.

Wetherholt, Memphis’ consistent leadoff hitter since advancing to Triple-A, now has four home runs in his last six games. He entered Tuesday’s game hitting .333 with a 1.153 OPS through 11 games with the Redbirds.

Wetherholt was promoted from Springfield to Memphis following his first multi-homer game and being named to the National League roster for the MLB All-Star Futures Game, where Wetherholt went 1-for-4 with a double that led off the game.
Wetherholt also had a four- hit game on July 18.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Wetherholt with the seventh overall pick in 2024, the highest selection in WVU baseball history. He helped the Mountaineers to an NCAA Super Regional appearance during his final season, setting a series of program records at the plate after breaking out during the 2023 campaign.
Wetherholt began the 2025 season in Double-A and recorded seven home runs, 34 RBI, 44 walks and 14 stolen bases before moving up to Triple-A. He helped the Cardinals’ Single-A affiliate win the Florida State League championship in 2024, logging the game-winning hit.
