The biggest challenge for Zach Frazier as he prepares for his second NFL season is learning a new quarterback. However, as an incumbent Steeler, Frazier has been able to help Aaron Rodgers as he learns the Steelers’ offense.

Rodgers actually detailed what it’s been like working with Frazier while appearing on the Pat McAfee Show that was live from Steelers training camp after on Wednesday.

“It starts and ends with that kid, though. I mean, he’s got a chance to be really special in the league. A lot of the great centers I’ve had were also wrestlers, and he was a great wrestler in high school,” said Rodgers.

“But he’s super smart. … He’s a little too smug for my liking, though. He’s out there making calls for me right now telling me if I got the right check. So I gotta get his ass in line a little bit and let him know who’s in charge. But no, seriously, Zach’s done a great job,” Rodgers joked about Frazier’s intelligence and mind for the game.

While heโ€™s a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer, Rodgers has drawn criticism in recent seasons for his outspoken behavior off the field, taking time during the season to make high profile podcast appearances and earning a reputation as a distraction to his team.

Frazier said Rodgers will take a different approach in Pittsburgh this season and the two will develop chemistry in time.

โ€œHe just said heโ€™s all in. Heโ€™s ready to get to work,โ€ Frazier said back in June, further describing how Rodgersโ€™ experience after two decades in the NFL has helped the duo mesh. โ€œWeโ€™ll see. I mean, Iโ€™m sure weโ€™ll get it all figured out in training camp. Heโ€™s played a lot of football so shouldnโ€™t take very long.โ€

Working with a quarterback like Rodgers is an experience Frazier doesn’t take for granted.

โ€œItโ€™s pretty cool. Definitely myself as a younger kid would be pretty excited about it,โ€ Frazier said. โ€œI mean, I am too, but itโ€™s pretty cool.โ€

After wrapping up his college career at WVU, Frazier was drafted by the Steelers with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He capped off his stellar rookie season from an individual perspective with national recognition like being named to the 2024 PFWA All-Rookie Team and the recipient of the โ€œJoe Greene Great Performance Awardโ€ as Pittsburghโ€™s top performing rookie.

Despite being a rookie and missing a couple games with an injury, Frazier was graded as one of the top centers in the NFL all year by PFF. He opened the season as Pittsburghโ€™s starting center due to a season- ending injury to incumbent Nate Herbig.

In an ESPN poll from during the 2024 regular season, Frazier ranked sixth amongย all NFL rookies. The poll took the opinion of five NFL analysts, including ESPN NFL draft analyst Jordan Reid.
