After an offseason full of criticism and low expectations, several members of the 2025 WVU football team receive some love at the start of the new week.

The Mountaineers are well represented on the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 list, which serves as an annual indicator of which college players scouts are planning to follow throughout the upcoming college football season in preparation of the next NFL Draft.

Eight West Virginia players, equally split on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, made the list. WVU’s incumbent start running back Jahiem White headlines the group that also includes key transfers like wide receiver Cam Vaughn, cornerback Michael Coats Jr., safety Fred Perry and edge rusher Jimmori Robinson. Offensive linemen Carson Lee and Waler Young Bear and linebacker Chase Wilson also made the cut.

“Every year, approximately 1000 all-star game eligible players are drafted, signed after the draft, or attend a rookie mini-camp. Our aim is for this Shrine Bowl 1000 to serve as a look into our scouting process, as well as begin to preview college players who are currently all-star game eligible for the 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl and 2026 NFL Draft class.

Putting together this list was extremely challenging for our team, as we scouted players from all four levels of football and consulted with NFL and college personnel to ensure the selection of the best 1000 players for the NFL level.

The East-West Shrine Bowl is a best-in-class all-star event that will take place at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco,TX on January 27, 2026. Our players will be coached by NFL coaches, in an NFL facility, and will have access to NFL-level resources, facilities, player-friendly schedules, and opportunities at the highest level. For more information about the 2026 game, you can visit this link.

For one more player representing West Virginia, linebacker Jalen Marshall landed on the list as Marshall’s lone player to represent the Thundering Herd.
